James Geloso, of Pitman, was heading east on a 2004 Honda motorcycle when his bike veered off to the left lane and onto the grass median in front of Story Book Land around 11:45 p.m., Egg Harbor Township police said in a news release.

That's when Geloso lost control, struck a sign support and capsized the bike onto its side. Both the motorcycle and Geloso were sent tumbling into the inside lane of the Black Horse Pike.

A witness came across Geloso and motorcycle in the lane of travel after the first crash, and called 911 to report the downed rider still in the road. A few moments later, as the witness was on the phone with 911 dispatchers, a 2018 Cadillac XTS driven by a 63-year-old Egg Harbor Township man struck both Geloso and his bike, laying in the roadway, according to police.

As a result of the crashes, Geloso was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Assisting at the crash scene was the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, Egg Harbor Township EMS, the Cardiff Fire Department and the NJ State Department of Transportation Traffic Incident Team.

This crash was investigated by Ofc. Joe Ricevuto, Ofc. Nick Poletis, and Sgt. Ed Stearns of the Traffic Safety Unit. The investigation is on-going at this time. Traffic was detoured in the area for approximately 5 hours while the scene was being investigated and cleared.
